Charities

Sharing has always been part of our plan.

In 2023 we are, once again, supporting Down Syndrome Training and Support Service Ltd. The work they do has changed the lives of many children and young people with Down syndrome. They have done an amazing job over the last 5 years, reaching out to well over 400 families. In total 76 children have been through their early development groups and some have started school on a par with, or occasionally above, their peers. They have become known as a hub of expertise for professionals working with people affected by Down syndrome and people travel from all over the country to use their services- they have trained more than 4,000 people over this time.

We are also continuing to support COCO (Comrades of Children Overseas), an international children’s charity, based in Newcastle upon Tyne. COCO works with remote, marginalised communities in East Africa, funding sustainable, community led initiatives to provide children with access to the education that is essential for a good start in life.

Lucy Kendall, CEO, COCO said ” We are extremely grateful to Plan to Share for their support of COCO. They are a pleasure to work with and a shining example of corporate social responsibility in action.”

COCO is currently operating in Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda. Despite having just three full-time and three part-time members of staff, the charity has enjoyed considerable success. Graduates from one partner school, Hoja Secondary in Tanzania, have achieved the best results in their region of 192 schools for six consecutive years and the school has been able to cover its own running costs for over three years. COCO is working with 16 other communities to replicate this success.
